Why can dogs see laser pointers if red isn't in their available color spectrum?
I am doing a project on dog's vision, and I cant seem to find out why a dog cant see the color red but they can still find a laser pointer and chase it. Does it have something to do with it being a single ray of the light? If you find the answer online, please give me the link! I would greatly appreciate it!
According to this reference, it is not that dogs cannot see red, but that they cannot distinguish any colors in the green to red range. So they are red-green color blind.
They see all those hues with a single color receptor that has its maximum sensitivity in the yellow-green part of the spectrum, but it has some sensitivity to red light as well. So all those colors appear as different brightnesses of one shade. They have a second color receptor that has peak response in the violet part of the spectrum and includes some blue sensitivity. So their ability to see light covers about the same range as human vision, except that only divides that range into two distinct parts. Blue green is probably seen a little by both receptors and would be interpreted as a third color.

How long does your hair stay the color Red when you Henna your hair?
I colored my hair Red with Henna 3 days ago and love it! I just wanted to know from people that have colored their hair with Henna, how long did their hair stayed that Red color? I know when I have colored my hair Red before with Clairol permanent hair color, after two weeks my hair was not red anymore. It was more Brown then Red! I hope that Henna keeps that Red color for longer!
Henna is a permanent dye, clairol used at home is a demi permanent or semi permanent dye.
And red fades faster than other colors.
If you buy great quality henna with high dye content it will dye red and stay red very well.

Rock Climbing Red
Does rock climbing exercise the fast twitch or slow twitch muslce fibres more than the other?
Type I muscle fibers (slow-oxidative fibers) use primarily cellular respiration and, as a result, have relatively high endurance.
To support their high-oxidative metabolism, these muscle fibers typically have lots of mitochondria and myoglobin, and thus appear red (what is typically termed "dark" meat in poultry.)
Type II muscle fibers use primarily anaerobic metabolism and have relatively low endurance. These muscle fibers are typically used during tasks requiring short bursts of strength, such as sprints or weightlifting. Type II muscle fibers cannot sustain contractions for significant lengths of time, and are typically found in the white meat (e.g., the breast) of chicken.

People don't generally sprint up rock faces, rather they move slowly and deliberately.

Climb to New Heights of Success
Nature has so many amazing lessons for our spiritual journey. I recently was in magical Sedona, AZ for a retreat and set out early one morning with some friends to hike a mountain. Here are some of the success strategies I learned.
1. To Climb High You Must Lighten Your Load
When you're climbing a mountain, it's important to lighten your load first. I chose to climb with only a camera in my pocket and a water bottle in my hand. Another friend of mine had a heavy pack …..with camera equipment, a few water bottles, food and extra gear – all for a one hour hike. By the top of the mountain he was definitely feeling all that extra weight!
In life, we're always growing and evolving. To move to the next level of our success, it's imperative we continuously lighten our emotional baggage. Do your emotional homework so you can leave limiting beliefs or old stories about the past behind you. You'll enjoy the journey far more.
2. Watch Where You Put Your Feet
We hiked up one of the gorgeous red rock hills of Sedona, and at times the footing was treacherous. To climb safely, I had to focus. I became very aware of where I was placing each step. A misstep on a loose rock resulted in a painful fall in the cactus for one of my hiking buddies!
Our greatest power is always in the present moment. Bring attention and focus to what you are doing right here, right now in order to move ahead.
3. Stop and Enjoy the Views
As we puffed our way up the mountain, I was reminded of how important it is to stop and appreciate the progress we had made. Often the view down behind me on the path was every bit as spectacular as the view up ahead. Take the time to enjoy the fruits of your labor and re-energize yourself for the next stretch ahead.
4. Mountains Have Peaks and Valleys
As we reached the top of our mountain, other new mountains I previously hadn't seen came into view. Life, like a mountain range, has peaks and valleys. The valleys aren't "wrong" or "bad," they just are. The depth of the valley gives context to the height of the mountain just next to it.
Progress isn't linear. There are no escalators that effortlessly connect one mountaintop to the next. The skills, wisdom and resources you are required to draw upon in that moment of challenge in the "valley" is exactly what will enable you to climb that next mountaintop in your life.
5. Share Your Experience
My hiking buddies and I returned in time for breakfast with others in our group. We greeted them with smiles on our faces and stories about the beautiful experience we had. Next thing I know, another handful of new hikers decided to tackle the mountain inspired by our enthusiasm and sharing.
There is enormous power in sharing your experience with others. Don't minimize the value of your life wisdom. As we stretch and explore and share, we inspire others to do the same. You never know when one moment of you sharing your heart with another will inspire them to climb an important mountain in their life.

Red Hiking
Red oak? Weirdness on oak tree bark... what's up?
I noticed while hiking that some oak trees have a reddish spore-looking dusty kinda stuff all over em... The amount varies from tree to tree but I'm wondering if this is some kind of infection/infestation/blight/fungus or maybe an indication that the tree is a "red oak" (I was always under the impression that the leaves were the big tell-tale). So yeah, I'm curious... what's goin on here?
This spore like dust may be the result of oak wilt. Oak wilt is an aggressive disease that affects many species of oak (Quercus spp.). It is one of the most serious tree diseases in the eastern United States, killing thousands of oaks each year in forests, woodlots, and home landscapes. Spore mats can form only within a year after tree death, and only when air temperature and wood moisture are within a certain range. In the northern United States this combination of wood moisture and temperature commonly occurs in spring of the year after the tree dies, or sometimes in autumn of the year the tree dies. The period of time during which mats are formed increases with decreasing latitude. In Texas, mat formation occurs at any time during the year, but is most common in late fall and winter when the weather is cooler and wetter.
Spore mats usually do not form on trees smaller than 6 inches in diameter at breast height, although smaller trees can occasionally support mats. In Texas, spore mats are formed only on Texas red oak and blackjack oak, and never on Texas live oak. For this reason, the red oaks are important for establishing new infection centers in Texas.
Another group of insects, oak bark beetles (not pictured), can also carry spores of the oak wilt pathogen and help to create new infection centers. These beetles acquire spores of the fungus while feeding on infected branches, and subsequently transmit them when feeding on healthy trees.

On The Hiking Trail (Pt. 12): THE RED FORGOTTEN FOREST
RASH above ankles after hiking long distance?
I hiked 10 miles on Saturday and noticed a bright red rash above the ankles. It started to fade, but then I was walking about 8 hours on Wed and it is now up my legs (it is still above the ankles) and is very bright red. Minimal itch. Looks more like a hickie would look like, only in big blotches and very intense looking. I am a little worried as I am backpacking about 10 miles this coming weekend. It does not look like a contact derm.
The first one was above the socks. The second time it was up my legs going over the calf.

If red states are so mismanaged, why do they have balanced budgets and NY and CA are bankrupt?
You libs need to check your facts. Texas and Alaska are doing great. Its the blue state losers with massive debt problems. California and New York are on the ropes, and likely to default on their debt soon. Many red states have balanced budget amendments, and do not borrow or overspend.
The liberals are still spending their way to prosperity in those blue states. Perhaps they need to spend even more.....give it time, the dems said that is how it's done.

Boston Red Sox became history makers, becoming the first team in Major League Baseball history to recover from a 3-0 deficit. Mark Loretta was replaced by Houston and Alex Gonzalez has been replaced by Julio Lugo.
