Climbing Harness
Can I get all I need for climbing at my state park?
I want to go climbing at Franklin Mountains in El Paso, Tx, but I do not have all the necessary stuff to climb, like harness, ropes, and all that stuff. The question is, Can I rent all that stuff at my State Park?
Not so fast Tim, some parks have private venues operating climbing schools at the location. Call the state park and ask.
@ Tim- my last trip to yosemite included some rock climbing, hosted by the school there, everything was provided we just had to show up. Also REI hosts climbing events all across the country and all you need is to show up. Geez people don't miss out use your fingers and call ahead!

What to Keep in Mind as You Shop for Tree Climbing Harnesses
Tree climbing harnesses just might be the single most important piece of arborist equipment you will ever purchase. With that in mind, it is essential that you do your due diligence in finding the proper one. Those means plenty of research for your particular use; and remember to purchase one that is OSHA and ANSI approved.
Here are a few things to remember as you search through the Webs extensive supply of tree climbing harnesses:
• A rock climbing harness is not the same thing. Of course, if you're an experienced arborist, you already know this. But for those of you just starting out, understand that tree climbing harnesses offer more support than rock climbing harnesses. Never try to substitute one for the other.
• Keep in mind how much time you will be spending in it. If you will be in it a good portion of the day, you will want one with a wide back and consider butt straps or a batten seat.
• If you will always be wearing spurs, consider one with a tall back pad, tapered at the sides since spur climbing puts increased pressure on the hips and back.
• If you will be using the harness mainly for limb walking, choose a sport saddle that is lighter weight and has leg loops.
• Consider if the saddle has a batten seat or suspenders that you might want to add later.
• Decide what connection points you like. A floating bridge or D rings.
• The fit should be secure enough to hold you but make sure you have plenty or room for winter time when you wear more layers of clothing.
Check the straps. There are two things to keep in mind when checking the leg straps. First of all, you want them to fit comfortably. The last thing you need it to be high up in the trees and b experiencing discomfort. While the straps should be secure, you don't want them digging into your legs. Secondly, make sure they are easy to adjust. That way you will have no trouble obtaining the ideal fit.
Once you choose a harness, place your order and wait patiently. Upon receiving it, follow these steps;
1. Take it out of the package and look it over closely. Look to make sure the product was as stated online, including material, stitching, and adjustability. Look for any possible defects and if you notice any, contact the supplier immediately.
2. Try it on. How does it feel? Can you easily adjust it to fit properly? Is it breathable? Stand up, squat down, stretch your legs and your arms—move all about. Do you feel too restrained?
3. Test it out. Go for an easy climb for a test drive. Does it seem sturdy? Does it tighten and choke as you climb up? It shouldn't. You want to maintain good blood circulation.
After looking it over, trying it on, and testing it out, make your final decision. Is this the one for you? Or should you be trying out other tree climbing harnesses? In the event that it does not work out the way you wanted, contact the supplier you purchased it from. Hopefully you checked out their return policy before making your purchase and will not have any difficulty exchanging it for another.

Do dogs need boots when hiking with a load on?
I am planning on buying my dog a pack to carry his own water, extra leash, and perhaps some of my stuff, like a flashlight, small first aid kit, and etc on our hikes. Probably only about 10-15lbs worth of stuff (I may increase the weight as he grows accustomed to it). Just wondering if he will need boots to protect his pads from sharp rocks and things. Are dog's pads not designed to support more than the dogs own weight?
Some background: My dog is an (approximately) 18 month old male, 80lbs, Doberman/German Shepherd mix. He is on the active side, goes for long, brisk walks daily, and has been hiking several times with me before (without a pack), and it was a breeze for him. We usually do a 4-5 mile trek.
Boots are to protect the paws from extreme cold and heat. They aren't needed for hiking under normal conditions with or without a pack. You may want to consider packing a set incase of a paw injury as they can be used to help protect the injured paw for the walk back out, but other than that you dog doesn't need to wear them.

Which toys are best?
I am adopting a bearded collie/ daschund puppy. 7 weeks old. Walmart has tons of toys for 88 cents. I already have some toys, but want some more. He will sleep in a crate, if that matters. Needs some nice indoor toys and some durable outdoor toys. Teething rings or ropes?
They have a frisbee thing, it's got a ball in the middle that has ropes connecting to a cloth covered ring with squeakers in the cloth ring. It's like a frisbee, Seem enjoyable?
I got the frisbee thing, 2 ropes, 1 puppy teething key set. 2 mini tennis ball, 1 tennis ball, 5 plush toys, 4 squeeky toys and 1 icy bone *stick in freezer on hot days*
for outside balls most dogs love to chase balls

Indoor Retractable Clothesline - Expert Tips to Buying a Retracting Style Laundry Dryer
Nature has given us so much that we survive and thrive on its gifts still to this day and will continue to do so even after some years down the line. But it has also given us seasons and weather. The most dreaded weather in a cold country is the period when lives are affected by continuous days of snowfall; in hot country – the extreme and unbearable heat of the sun and in rainy countries – continuous precipitation.
However much we want a ‘balanced' weather, we have to adjust with the nature's ever changing mood and hence adapt to seasons and weather disturbances. Unfortunately, there are some chores that we have to continue doing even when the seasons are relentless. One such chore is washing and drying of clothes. We need to keep ourselves and our clothes clean. Drying them in seasons of precipitation like cold and rainfall becomes a tough task, especially when you:
• Either do not have an electric dryer
• Or you have but cannot use it due to cost cutting efforts taken up by you to counter the recessional period.
Thankfully, there is also an innovation known as the indoor clothesline which is also retractable. If you want to buy one, you would do better by following these buying tips.
• A clothesline that does not ‘stick' to your clothes: When drying clothes indoors, it is expected that you'll use household gadgets like the room heater and fan/blower combination to dry your clothes. Naturally, you can expect the ambient temperature to go up. A cheap build rope would sort of melt and may stick to your clothes. Therefore you must look for a heat/fire proof clothesline which can retract as well. Chinese rubber retractable ropes are notorious for being of inferior quality.
Trust your general discretion and logic before purchasing one.
• Don't go for really long clotheslines: An indoor clothesline does not have to be long like the one you would buy otherwise for an outdoor use. But don't buy a too short one either. You always have the option of using the length which you want to without making an ugly mess of extra lines when you buy a retractable one.
• Focus on the quality of end hooks and/or clips: Be it indoors or outdoors, you have to make sure that the quality of the end hooks and clips are of good build. This is one aspect of which you have to be choosy and careful about. A good quality rope should logically use a good quality hook too, but it is better to test and choose rather than just picking up a random retractable line.
• Longevity of such indoor retractable clotheslines: One does not care much about the longevity of such indoor retractable clotheslines because in the end, you will have to find a way out to dry your clothes by other means. Perpetual drying clothes inside may make your walls and room damp and unhygienic to live. Therefore the longevity of such ropes does not matter much as long as they of good quality finish and build.
