mesa boogie/fender amp question.?

I am a huge fan of mesa boogie's amps. I love the dual and triple rectifier amps. There is no better guitar amp in my opinion. The question is since mesas are based on fender amps hot-rodded...basically a hot rodded twin, with a killer preamp section. Will a mesa recreate accuarately the sounds of a fender twin? So much of the classic rock I enjoy is based off the sound of the overdriven twin..and I was just curious..I know that the mesa uses 6l6's rather than the marshall tubes the el38's or whatever..and that gives it a different seething scorching tone.

Anyone know..soundbites?

You can change the tubes in the Recto series, and there is a switch to re-bias . I found I could get nearly any sound I wanted with careful tweaking- amazing amps! I liked the "Spongy" setting, Orange channel for lighter work like you are describing- however, the Rectos don't have reverb, so they can't sound like the Fenders in that respect.

Timelessly and majestically the mighty rocks of the Mesa Verde National Park rise up into the sky and unlike most of the other nature parks in the U.S.A. here it is not only the natural landscape that is protected but also the remains of an early Native American Indian culture.Spruce Tree House, an Indian cliff dwelling once inhabited by the ancient Anasazi Tribe, was discovered by white settlers in the 19th century and most of the Indians' almost inaccessible settlements lie hidden close to the rock walls and even beneath them. The harmonious relationship between the early inhabitants of the canyons and nature can still be relived at various fascinating sites. Square Tower House was most likely built between 1200 and 1300 A.D. and thus flourished in the latter part of Anasazi culture. With around eighty rooms and seven ceremonial gathering places known as Kivas', this cliff dwelling was one of the larger communes in the region. Here's there's much American history to see as both North American Indian cultural history and nature are forever united within the fascinating Mesa Verde National Park.Source: Travel Video Store

Rock Block Guitar Amp, Eric Johnson Strat, mesa Boogie 2X12 cab, Clean

What's your opinion of running a Line 6 PODxt Live floor pedal through a Mesa Engineering Road King II?

I have been thinking of getting a Mesa Engineering Road King II with 4x12 Stiletto cab and I would like to know if it would be a good idea to run a Line 6 PODxt Live multi-fx floor pedal through it for special effects like delay, wah, reverb, and other things. I play a Fender Mexican Strat. I would use the distortion of the Mesa, but I'd like to use the effects of the PODxt. I'm just afraid that the EQ of the pedal would interfere with the EQ of the amp. Does anyone think this is or isn't a good idea? I play alternative rock/post-hardcore.

If you're playing through a POD, you shouldn't be worrying about your guitar's tone because you can't get tone out of a POD. My honest advice would be to get single, good quality, pedals and create a legitimate pedal board. That way, you'll have good tone as long as you're playing through a decent amp and you'll always be able to tweet the lows, mids, and highs as well as the presence if it's available. ENJOY!

Nirvana's Nevermind may have been the album that broke grunge and alternative rock into the mainstream, but there's no underestimating the role that Pearl Jam's Ten played in keeping them there. Nirvana's appeal may have been huge, but it wasn't universal; rock radio still viewed them as too raw and punky, and some hard rock fans dismissed them as weird misfits. In retrospect, it's easy to see why Pearl Jam clicked with a mass audience -- they weren't as metallic as Alice in Chains or Soundgarden, and of Seattle's Big Four, their sound owed the greatest debt to classic rock. With its intricately arranged guitar textures and expansive harmonic vocabulary, Ten especially recalled Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. But those touchstones might not have been immediately apparent, since -- aside from Mike McCready's Clapton/Hendrix-style leads -- every trace of blues influence has been completely stripped from the band's sound. Though they rock hard, Pearl Jam is too anti-star to swagger, too self-aware to puncture the album's air of gravity. Pearl Jam tackles weighty topics -- abortion, homelessness, childhood traumas, gun violence, rigorous introspection -- with an earnest zeal unmatched since mid-'80s U2, whose anthemic sound they frequently strive for. Similarly, Eddie Vedder's impressionistic lyrics often make their greatest impact through the passionate commitment of his delivery rather than concrete meaning. His voice had a highly distinctive timbre that perfectly fit the album's warm, rich sound, and that's part of the key -- no matter how cathartic Ten's tersely titled songs got, they were never abrasive enough to affect the album's accessibility. Ten also benefited from a long gestation period, during which the band honed the material into this tightly focused form; the result is a flawlessly crafted hard rock masterpiece. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi Performers: Walter Gray - Cello; Dave Krusen - Drums; Eddie Vedder - Vocals; Jeff Ament - Bass; Mike McCready - Guitar; Rick Parashar - Piano, Percussion, Organ; Stone Gossard - Guitar; Tim Palmer - Percussion

How To Get Guitar Tone - Making a Punk Rock Sound

So, you're a guitarist that loves your punk rock, but not sure how to get guitar tone like the sound you're looking for. Well, there are actually a few factors that come together when figuring how to get guitar tone you want.

Not only do you have to think of the guitar, but the amplifier, how it's configured, and any pedals that may go along with it. Check out these tips on how to get guitar tone that will satisfy your punk rock edge.

* Use a guitar with a boost in its mid-range.

Most punk rock guitarists create a good guitar tone starting from the instruments they own. Fenders and other "strat" style guitars supply a boost in their mid-range as opposed to Les Paul type guitars that boost the bass range.

* Play on amplifiers that supply less distortion.

Most of the time, punk rock guitar amplifiers are pretty modest with their distortion. How to get guitar tone you want may not be answered with a high-distortion Marshall amplifier. Check out the distortions on Fender or Mesa Boogie amplifiers for something smoother.

* Keep your distortion pure without the use of pedals to beef it up.

Punk rock players do not use a lot of pedals to alter their sound most of the time. Stay away from overdrive, delays, and metal-zone pedals to really keep your guitar tone authentic and thick.

* On your amplifier, boost the mid-level knob.

A lot of the guitar tone for punk music is in how the mid-level is set on the amplifier. Keep your highs and lows floating around 50% and your mid-level closer to 75%.

* Try your sound with a compressor.

Although an overuse of pedals can alter a punk guitar tone a little too much, a good compressor can give it just the right amount of bite. Try hooking your guitar up to a compressor pedal or rack piece to give your guitar more attack on stage.

Figuring how to get guitar tone that you want should come easily when you really explore the spectrum of sounds that electric guitars and their gear have to offer. The main goal however, is to arrive at a guitar tone that suits your personality and helps create your signature sound.

leupold green ring mesa binoculars-are these a good deal?

I'm looking to get a quality pair of binoculars. My budget is $200-300 dollars, but cheaper is obviously better. I want something that will serve me well for a lifetime, but don't have plans for extreme use that would justify spending more $.

I want these primarily as general purpose binos: wildlife watching, hunting, rock climbing scouting, and sporting.

I was leaning towards the Nikon Monarch 8x42, but I found a pair of new leupold green ring mesa 8x42 marked down to $99. This seems like a screaming deal. should I jump on these?

Thanks.

I found

The cheapest I have found Leupold Mesa binoculars is $175, The Nikon Monarch is even higher. I'd jump all over the $99 deal.

Zion National Park - St. George Utah

Zion National Park is a famous park in southwestern Utah. Located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, the Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert regions, the famous park houses diverse animal and plant species in its four life zones (desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. Aside from the healthy growth of flora and fauna, the vast rocky area also offers adventure trips and activities to people who come to Utah.

The Wonders of Zion National Park

The astounding park was first known as the Mukuntuweap National Monumant. Mukuntuweap is a Paiute Indian term meaning “straight arrow.” The name was changed to Zion National Monument and it gained more fame as a national park afterwards.

The naturally rocky park is home to high plateaus, narrow and deep canyons, rock towers, and mesas. All these highlight the beauty of Utah's rocky formations and unique land. Its most famous natural landmark is perhaps the towering Great White Throne, a mountain made of white Navajo sandstone. It towers up to 2,350 ft and can be seen from many locations through Zion Canyon. The Great White Throne is often used as a symbol of the park.

There is also what is famously called the Three Patriarchs, which consist of three massive cliffs of Lower Jurassic age. The cliffs are made of Moenave Formation, the Kayenta Formation, and the massive Navajo Sandstone. The Three Patriarchs are visible from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and the Watchman Campground Area.

Angels Landing is another natural wonder of the Zion National Park. It is a rock formation that measures up to 1208 ft tall, with sharp drop-offs and narrow paths. There are chains provided for the hikers at the last half-mile to the top. Despite the strenuous trail, hiking up to Angels Landing is still worth it because oit is considered as one of the most spectacular in the area.

The Virgin River Narrows, or simply the Narrows, is a part of canyon on the North Fork of the Virgin River. It is one of the premiere hiking trails on the Colorado Plateau, and is one of the most popular activities in the park. There will be the through-hike of The Narrows, and the hike to The Narrows itself.

Another great wonder of the Zion National Park is the Kolob Arch, the world's largest arch. This natural arch is set close to a cliff and can be reached by hiking. It is one of the most sought after wonders in the Zion National Park.

Activities and Recreation

There are many more natural wonders in Southern Utah's amazing park, all of which promotes the astounding beauty of rock formations and natural environment. Among others that you can also watch out for are the Watchman, the Checkerboard Mesa, the Emerald Pools, and the Hidden Canyon.

Zion National Park promotes hiking, rock-climbing, and scenic drives for tourists and guests. With the popularity of the park and the unique features it offers, it is only natural that southern Utah is also a great destination for people who hunger for adventure.
