imagination ideas for a 3 year old?

I can't afford all the newist latist expensive toys. Next week it's going to be hot and I don't want to take them outside..what are some ideas I can do for them to be entertained? I have two energetic kids who are short tempred, I need some ideas fast...My son is 3 and my daughter is 2. They are close and really enjoy playing all day. They've recently givin up naps and I don't want to many fights, time-outs. I have a bean bag chair(ball) coffee table, a few huge blankets, and pillows...we've been pirates, elephants, in a rock band elephants on parade, farm animals...etc. I'm gonna get 'em an indoor slide...does anyone have any other suggestions? They are awake for like 12 hours they don't have naps because there too excited. What are some ideas with tinfoil or house hold items???
thanks.
desperatly seeking imaginative ideas.

Why don't you read some books and try acting them out? My kids loved to act out The Three Bears at that age. Might be a little harder with the 2-year-old, but I bet she'd happily play along.

Do you have play-doh? Crayons? Paint-with-water sets? If not, those can be picked up pretty cheaply. Chalk is great for drawing on the sidewalk, which would give you a bit of outside time in the early morning before it gets too hot.

If they won't nap, you could still institute a quiet time where you sit and read books for a while or pop in a short movie. You could even turn off the lights, pop some popcorn, and make it like a real "theater."

Turn on some music, and let everyone dance around.

Have the kids help you do chores. They're old enough to use a dustcloth. Or fold washcloths. Or sort socks. Or wipe off the kitchen table with a wet rag.

If you don't have any dress-up stuff, see if you can find anything in your or their wardrobes that could be used for dress-up. Scarves and hats are great. You can even borrow from friends/family or pick a few things up cheaply at a yard sale.

If you do decide to go outside for a bit, play some water games. Give them each a big bucket of water and a paintbrush, and let them "paint" whatever they want (even themselves and each other). Give them cups to help water the flowers.

If you have any floors that aren't carpeted, you can use masking tape (blue painter's tape peels off more easily, but regular masking tape works, too) to make a design on the floor. It could be hopscotch or a path to follow. Then, make a game out of it.

Blow up some balloons and bat them around the house.

Let the 3-yo (and maybe the 2-yo) try to play a couple computer games. There are lots of great games, videos, and coloring/activity pages at pbskids.org and www.starfall.com.

As for craft ideas, check out familyfun.com -- there are ideas for all ages.

Try to get out of the house a bit, too, if you can. Go to air-conditioned places -- the library, McDonald's playland (even if you just buy a coffee or soda for yourself), etc. It'll keep you from feeling so cooped up.

Have fun!

What are some activities to do in NJ?

I recently went indoor rock climbing and it was SOOO fun! I'm looking for other fun stuff to do. Got any ideas? And where I could go? I'll even go to NY. I went rock climbing in Brooklyn, NY. In 2 or 3 weeks I'll be checking out other spots in NJ. I plan to lose some weight and strengthen my forearms and hands. I was able to climb but I want to climb more challenging obstacles next time

Some fun activites to do in New Jersey are:

→Go to the beach
→Make new friends
→Amusement parks

Good luck!
