Can a baby be too independent?

When I put Lukas in his cot at bedtime and put his lullaby CD on, he lays himself and goes to sleep. He hasn't let me rock/cuddle him to sleep since 4 months and now if I stay and cuddle him or stroke his head I just keep him awake. I feel guilty just putting him down and walking away! I never left him to cry it out or did any "sleep training" stuff... we just followed his signs. He's just turned 10 months and has done this most nights since about 7-8 months.

Throughout the day, he is quite "busy" doing his own thing. Tapping everything with a teaspoon, climbing things, dancing... he occasionally comes to me and puts his head on my lap for a quick cuddle, then he's off again!

Also, he had separation anxiety around 9 months and would scream for me even if his Dad was holding him. This seems to have completely gone already (unless he's tired or hurt, then he wants me). Is that normal? Can a baby be TOO independent?

Sounds like a happy and well adjusted baby to me.

With the sleep thing, my son was the same way, only for him it was since birth. I had bought a glider, so I could rock him to sleep. He wasn't having any of that. The longer I rocked, the more I tried to soothe, the angrier he'd get. Didn't take me long to figure out, it was easier to just put him to bed. He'd cry for a minute or 2, and drift off to sleep. That was a lot better than the 20+min of him getting worse while I tried to rock him.

Be grateful, not so many moms are so fortunate. My friend's daughter gave new meaning to clingy as a baby, and her bedtime routine was ridiculous. She had to have her bottle, and her baby and her blanket arranged just so, and even then it took forever for that baby to go to sleep. She'd cling to her mother 24/7 if allowed, which made it very hard for my friend to get anything done.

I don't think there is such a thing as too independent. Though their budding independence can get aggravating. When my son was 2 he went thru his "I can do it myself" phase. That was frustrating, as he wasn't always physically capable of doing everything on his own, and would get upset when he couldn't. My favorite, was if he had a spill, he'd say, "Uh oh!" and run get his paper towels to "clean it up" which translates into spread it around worse. He sure was proud though, to have cleaned up his own mess.

Be happy for him. And take pride in the great job you're doing.

Rock Climbing Training Videos?

I was wondering if there are any (free) videos around on the internet and such that would show me tips to improve my rock climbing. I was at the indoor climbing place in my local area the other day and I noticed a lot of the smaller holds I cant hold onto but other people hold on like its nothing? is there a certain way to help me be able to hold onto the smaller smoother holds?
