Mountain Climbing Andes
Is this a good Introduction??????????????

Okay, I am suppose to write an essay about courage from reading the Excerpt from Miracle in The andes, and can you rate my Intro, from 1-10, and tell me what should I improve? Thanks:

Many people face pain and hardships, throughout life, and learn to accept reality, with Courage and Strength. In the excerpt from Miracle in The Andes, Nando Parrado, faces many hardships throughout the excerpt. His plane crashes, and many of his friends, including him mom and sister die. Nando and some of his friends, survive, and have very little food to survive the harsh conditions of The Andes Mountains. With Courage, and Strength, Nando is able to climb the mountain and learns to overcome his fear of death.

Whats a good headlamp for hiking and camping?

I am going on a camping trip in two weeks and need a headlamp! However, I have find headlamps ranging from $1 to $200! I am more likely in the price range of 1-40$ but can someone recommend me a decent headlamp? One with features like a red filter (even though i dont know what that is used for!) and one that is bright, while of course, not being too expensive.
I am so new to this outdoor stuff!

OK you can get a cheapie, but its light is limited and does not have a far reaching beam:

I really really like this one:

http://www.rei.com/product/775033

It has different settings so you can get as much light as you need and conserve batteries when you don;t need as much. It is lightweight and more comfortable them any I have tried for wearing all night. It doesn't have a 'red filter' (I don't know what for either) but it has a flashing mode, and flashing red lights in back for group travel. And you get great battery life. I have used one for long distance dog mushing for the last 2 winters and really put it to the test.

I have found it is usually worth the investment in good gear.

Do dogs need boots when hiking with a load on?

I am planning on buying my dog a pack to carry his own water, extra leash, and perhaps some of my stuff, like a flashlight, small first aid kit, and etc on our hikes. Probably only about 10-15lbs worth of stuff (I may increase the weight as he grows accustomed to it). Just wondering if he will need boots to protect his pads from sharp rocks and things. Are dog's pads not designed to support more than the dogs own weight?

Some background: My dog is an (approximately) 18 month old male, 80lbs, Doberman/German Shepherd mix. He is on the active side, goes for long, brisk walks daily, and has been hiking several times with me before (without a pack), and it was a breeze for him. We usually do a 4-5 mile trek.

Boots are to protect the paws from extreme cold and heat. They aren't needed for hiking under normal conditions with or without a pack. You may want to consider packing a set incase of a paw injury as they can be used to help protect the injured paw for the walk back out, but other than that you dog doesn't need to wear them.

LEKI, the world's leading manufacturer of ski, hiking and trekking poles had its start in Kircheim, Germany as a hobby of its founder, Karl Lenhart, an airframe mechanic and avid skier. Lenhart believed aluminum would make a superior ski pole compared to the heavy steel models available in the late 1940's. After successfully creating light- weight poles for his friends, in 1954, the hobby became a full time business. Stupid light, these trekking poles were made to cover long distances while providing the most support possible. Carbonlite construction replaces traditional aluminum for a lighter and stronger pole, while SpeedLock fasteners made for quick and rock solid adjustments. The spectacular natural landscape of giant mountains, wild deserts and deep gorges, combined with a thriving Tibetan-Buddhist culture makes Ladakh ("Little Tibet") one of the most fascinating destinations in the Himalaya.Trekking in Ladakh is the fully revised third edition of Charlie Loram`s practical guide to low impact trekking in this high altitude region of northwest India. For this new edition, researcher Jim Manthorpe has rewalked all the routes. The book includes comprehensive trail descriptions and 75 maps covering both classic and lesser-known routes throughout:*Central Ladakh *Nubra *Rupshu *Zanskar *Western Ladakh *Also includes Stok Kangri trekking peak (20,188ft)As with all Trailblazer hiking guides, the route maps in Trekking in Ladakh include features not usually found on standard maps: walking times, directions, tricky junctions, places to stay and eat, and points of interest. These are not general-purpose maps but fully edited maps drawn by walkers for walkers. This book is much more than a hiking-route guide--all the practical information hikers need is included, from planning their trip and getting to Ladakh from North America to arranging a trek (whatever their style of trekking, from a short backpacking trip to a fully-guided expedition). There are town guides to Leh (capital of Ladakh), Manali, and Delhi, including street plans, what to see, hotels, and restaurants for all budgets. There`s also background information on history, culture, and language; plus comprehensive sections on health and mountain safety. The guide is particularly strong on environmental preservation: minimum impact for maximum insight. The author includes tips on how to travel with sensitivity and awareness through a fragile region.

Looking fashionable in outdoor clothing

Outdoor sports is something loved by everyone everywhere, there seems to be nothing better than coming home from a day outside playing sport. You may be aching and your clothes may be all muddy but you will feel alive inside. Keeping fit is also a very important thing for everyone so by playing sport outside you can have fun but also thinking about keeping fit and staying healthy. Especially as the weather has started to pick up and evenings are going to start getting lighter and brighter. No matter what sport your play, whether it be football and golf to sailing and canoeing being out in the fresh air whilst keeping fit is good for you and will free your mind.

One thing that may play on peoples mind when going outside to play sport is what clothing they should wear. One thing that you should consider is what clothing is going to suitable for the sport you are playing. Also some people out there may want to ensure that they are looking good whilst playing sport outside and they don't want to have to wear frumpy clothing whilst they play. If you physically engage in an outdoor sport or you simply want to wear fashionable sporty clothing there is now so much choice on the market today.

Some of the more popular sports such as hiking, rock climbing and even surfing now offer a wide range of clothing to suit the sport but also making you look great and fashionable. For men they can wear such things as board shorts and wet suits and for women there are many fashionable sporting clothing now available in many different colours that allow you to catch the attention of the crowd and make you feel and look great.

There are now many different types of ethical clothing widely available with outdoor sports clothing not excluded from this. Ethical clothing can mean different things to different people. Some people explain it as environmentally friendly clothing and made from organic materials. Others will say it is where the people who have took the time to make your clothes have been treated well and rewarded for the hard work they have put into it and the cotton that is used to make your clothing has been grown by farmers that have been treated well and have not been exploited. Not only can you think about looking good in outdoor clothing but you can think about doing this ethically.
