Climbing Harness

Can I get all I need for climbing at my state park?
I want to go climbing at Franklin Mountains in El Paso, Tx, but I do not have all the necessary stuff to climb, like harness, ropes, and all that stuff. The question is, Can I rent all that stuff at my State Park?
Not so fast Tim, some parks have private venues operating climbing schools at the location. Call the state park and ask.
@ Tim- my last trip to yosemite included some rock climbing, hosted by the school there, everything was provided we just had to show up. Also REI hosts climbing events all across the country and all you need is to show up. Geez people don't miss out use your fingers and call ahead!

What to Keep in Mind as You Shop for Tree Climbing Harnesses
Tree climbing harnesses just might be the single most important piece of arborist equipment you will ever purchase. With that in mind, it is essential that you do your due diligence in finding the proper one. Those means plenty of research for your particular use; and remember to purchase one that is OSHA and ANSI approved.
Here are a few things to remember as you search through the Webs extensive supply of tree climbing harnesses:
• A rock climbing harness is not the same thing. Of course, if you're an experienced arborist, you already know this. But for those of you just starting out, understand that tree climbing harnesses offer more support than rock climbing harnesses. Never try to substitute one for the other.
• Keep in mind how much time you will be spending in it. If you will be in it a good portion of the day, you will want one with a wide back and consider butt straps or a batten seat.
• If you will always be wearing spurs, consider one with a tall back pad, tapered at the sides since spur climbing puts increased pressure on the hips and back.
• If you will be using the harness mainly for limb walking, choose a sport saddle that is lighter weight and has leg loops.
• Consider if the saddle has a batten seat or suspenders that you might want to add later.
• Decide what connection points you like. A floating bridge or D rings.
• The fit should be secure enough to hold you but make sure you have plenty or room for winter time when you wear more layers of clothing.
Check the straps. There are two things to keep in mind when checking the leg straps. First of all, you want them to fit comfortably. The last thing you need it to be high up in the trees and b experiencing discomfort. While the straps should be secure, you don't want them digging into your legs. Secondly, make sure they are easy to adjust. That way you will have no trouble obtaining the ideal fit.
Once you choose a harness, place your order and wait patiently. Upon receiving it, follow these steps;
1. Take it out of the package and look it over closely. Look to make sure the product was as stated online, including material, stitching, and adjustability. Look for any possible defects and if you notice any, contact the supplier immediately.
2. Try it on. How does it feel? Can you easily adjust it to fit properly? Is it breathable? Stand up, squat down, stretch your legs and your arms—move all about. Do you feel too restrained?
3. Test it out. Go for an easy climb for a test drive. Does it seem sturdy? Does it tighten and choke as you climb up? It shouldn't. You want to maintain good blood circulation.
After looking it over, trying it on, and testing it out, make your final decision. Is this the one for you? Or should you be trying out other tree climbing harnesses? In the event that it does not work out the way you wanted, contact the supplier you purchased it from. Hopefully you checked out their return policy before making your purchase and will not have any difficulty exchanging it for another.
Be careful
Bottom line, take great precaution as you select tree climbing harnesses. It is extremely important that you get the right one for your body type and your application.

Tree Trimming Techniques
A very popular recreational activity that is usually common in young kids but not limited to them only. Tree climbing is about going up and down a tree normally with a rope or a harness method. Not only is it done for fun but arborists have to know how to do so as part of their job. Arborists are the people who take care and manage trees all over the world. How you climb a tree is dependent upon many factors such as how many branches does a tree have or what is the height of the tree you intend to climb. Moreover, weather conditions also have an impact. The two most famous techniques used for climbing a tree include free climbing and single rope climbing. Free climbing is basically climbing a tree without a rope, ladder or any other supporting equipment. All a person has is his or her limbs. It is quite dangerous and can lead to accidents and injuries if you are not a professional in free climbing. Even if you are somehow skilled in free climbing, it is advised not to go for it if the tree is extremely tall or the bark is difficult to keep a grip on. Moving on to the single rope technique, this one involves using a throw line or weight to launch a rope over a strong limb. Ascenders are mechanisms that kind of lock the rope when pressure is applied downwards and they provide a lot of assistance a lot in single rope climbing. When the climber starts going up the bark, the ascenders allow the slack to feed through. But as soon as the weight of the climber starts putting against the rope, the ascenders lock automatically. In a single rope climbing technique, you can use two tactics. You could use a sit stand system or a rope walking system. In a sit stand system a climber positions his body in a sitting posture and straddles the rope along with the ascender attached to the foot. He has to utilize his hands to climb the tree while the legs would follow. On the other hand, the rope walking technique is when the ascender mechanism is attached to both the feet but on one foot it is attached a bit higher than the other one. In this technique all four limbs are used to pull up the body but the legs are to be alternated with each step. Other techniques include the double rope climbing technique and the lead climbing technique. Lead climbing is usually considered the most difficult technique among all the other methods. Tree climbing is a lot of fun especially when camping with friends or family. Sometimes knowing how to climb trees can also be beneficial to escape from dangerous situations. This activity is gaining importance with time and in the contemporary era it is also considered an exercise.

| | Mammut 10.5 Superflash Climbing Rope $309.95 Whether you're aiming for the Nose in a day, or an afternoon on Zebra/Zion, make sure you're tied in to the Mammut 10.5 Superflash Climbing Rope. Ideally designed for multi-pitch rock climbing, but more than adequate for all-round sport climbing, this Swiss quality rope can handle 13-14 UIAA-falls (1 strand 80 kg). Every Mammut rope is manufactured in Switzerland using high quality Polyamide 6 (Nylon) filament yarns. Every meter of rope is electronically checked for irregularities, and a sample from each production batch tested in their inhouse drop test tower. The Superflash features Mammut's COATINGfinish process, in which the individual rope strands are PTFE coated in order to minimize chafing and improve friction co-efficiency. This allows substantially lighter ropes with the same number of falls, or ropes which can hold a substantially higher load and have the same weight. Go big with the 10.5 Superflash Climbing Rope from Mammut. |
| | Petzl Xion 10.1mm Climbing Rope $235 Offering excellent hand and a suppleness similar to that of lighter diameter ropes, the Xion 10.1mm Climbing Rope is Petzl's toughest all-around rope. Extra durable, its 10.1 mm diameter features 22% more sheath by weight than comparable ropes in the Petzl lineup. The XION is great for those who want the increased longevity of a larger-diameter rope without sacrificing ease of handling. A Duratec Dry treatment helps prevent the rope from absorbing water, which can weaken a rope and make it difficult to handle in freezing conditions. Before a Petzl rope is constructed, the core and sheath strands are individually treated, providing water repellencty in case you find yourself in a deluge, snowfield or on a dripping ice chandelier. |

Rope Solo Lead Climbing Tutorial Part 5 - Tips and Outro
Choosing the Right Mountain Climbing Gear
Since rock climbing is more than a simple walk in the woods you will want to bring the proper mountain climbing equipment. With the right equipment you can weather the challenges.
To help you select the proper gear we have compiled a list of must have gear;
Climbing Rope
Your rope is indispensable. You simply cannot be without a rope. It is your security device against falls. Select a rope with a diameter of ten to twelve millimeters and a length of fifty to sixty meters long.
Climbing Harness
When rock climbing the harness you wear will keep you tied to the rope. The harness attaches to the rope and provides safety from falls. With the rope the harness is arguably the most important safety item you want. There is little worse than a harness that does not fit your body correctly. Your harness must be comfortable at both your thigh and waist areas.
Chalk and Chalk Bag
Chalk is used to keep your hands dry and able to grip the rocks or rope firmly. Chalk comes in a ball or powder and is rubbed on your hands to absorb excess moisture.
Your chalk bag needs to be able to be attached to your harness for easy access when you need it. Both chalk and a good chalk bag are available at most sports or specialty stores.
Climbing Shoes
Everyday sports shoes or boots will do you no good when you are rock climbing. Specialty boots are crafted to give the best performance while negotiating the slopes. You want a snug but comfortable fit that allows your foot to move.
Protective Helmet
Mountain climbing has several inherent dangers. One very common danger is falling debris. You never know when someone above you will loosen rock or drop equipment. Keep your experience happy, pick a good fitting properly certified helmet. A good helmet will provide protection when you bump your head against a rock or wall too.
Carabiners
A solid carabiner will add additional protection from any slip. It should also be durable and tough for the most extreme trashing.
With the right equipment mountain climbing can be both fun and safe. The above tips will help you select the best mountain climbing gear for you and ensure you enjoy your rock climbing adventures.
The Sport of Mountain/Rock Climbing
Some people are always trying to reach the top, figuratively and literally. When it comes to rock climbers this is even more true. Climbers want to reach the top of the high summits and gaze out at the wonderful sight only a view from there can offer.
Our busy city lifestyles keep us cooped up in offices much of the time. Which is probably a lot of the draw that mountain climbing has, breaking free to the outdoors and nature.
The physical challenges of rock climbing, navigating the trails to reach the peak, can help refresh our mind and spirit too. There is nothing more refreshing than attaining our highest goal of the moment.
Rock climbing, mountaineering, or mountain climbing; whatever you call it, has been a popular outdoor activity for decades.
Most of the time it was simply a hike in the mountains. Today it has evolved into taking on different combinations of snow, ice, mountains or rocks combined with camping and rappelling.
But the combination doesn't matter much, the common goal is to reach the top. Every effort will be aimed at reaching the peak. So, a lot of people feel the call to the rock climbing challenge. They are drawn to the many adventures they can enjoy. There are still many people who do not give into the challenge call. For them the idea scares them, they may not have the right skills or them might not be good enough to survive if something happened. Anyone who is interested in mountaineering or mountain climbing can learn. Remember that it takes time, effort and consideration.
Next, to make the mountaineering experience positively memorable is to, be sure the proper equipment and safety gear is available. Plan for the worst and you will be ready for possible accidents.

Climbing Belt

Just a thought if Maryse climbed the ladder and won it would be a repeate of a SVR 2007 storyline?
You were someone and Trish was the manager of Chris Masters and she got in and grabbed the belt and declared herself champ
Just a throw back
good times
Hmmmm. Interesting.

Safely Climb Trees With Tree Climbing Harnesses
In the recent years, the trees have become a rare sight in big cities as well as commercial and residential areas. Due to this lack of greenery and trees around, the citizens have developed a certain affection and love for trees. Children as well as adults now want to spend more time in forests and wild life camps where trees are present in abundance. People do not only admire the beauty of trees from the ground below but indulge themselves in a danger filled activity of tree climbing.
In recent years, many countries have seen a rise in tree climbing sports. Other than a competitive activity, tree climbing has become a healthy recreation for most people. Yet, it is not without danger and risk. Some countries have outlawed tree climbing given to the sheer risky nature of this recreational hobby.
That is why it is strictly advised to make use of safety gear while tree climbing and it should not be taken lightly. The front line safety equipment in tree climbing is a harness or as some may call it, a saddle. The height of some trees can reach many hundreds of feet. A fall from such height can prove fatal. Safety harness should therefore strictly be made part of the tree climbing gear in combination with other safety equipment.
The harness is not a single equipment but it is a system of different components working together to ensure your safety. The main component is a fabricated jacket type hardware that you may wear around your waist, chest, legs etc. It not only provides safety but comfort and ease in climbing too. It must be made sure that the ropes used with the harness are tree climbing ropes and not the mountain climbing ones that have the ability to stretch.
Usually, harnesses are of three main types. The first type of harness is called the sit string harness. It is the most widely used climbing harness as it provides a great deal of movement while ensuring proper safety of the climber. It usually consists of a waist belt and two leg loops that are attached together in the back over the hips. This attachment is called a belay loop. It can be sometimes quite painful if the harness is even a little misfit as all the weight and pressure is applied to the groin and upper thigh area through the belay and leg loops.
The chest harness is another type of harness worn by climbers. It is designed to be worn around the shoulders which is why it is used in combination with the sit harness. By combining both the harnesses, the weight load of the climber is evenly distributed and support is provided to both the lower and upper parts of the body.
The third kind of harness is the safest harness available to the climber. It is a full body harness. This type of harness is formed by permanently attaching the sit string harness and chest harness together. It is widely used by children while climbing for better comfort and safety.
