Rock climbing gloves in an indoor gym?

Hey
I've been climbing in an indoor gym for about 5 months now, and when I was in the sport shop today, I saw some rock climbing gloves. I was wondering what they are for, and why people use them? Also, would it be reccomended for me to get some? I belay and climb. Thanks for any advice.

The only time I have ever seen gloves used was for rappelling or belaying, but this is really going out of use. I have NEVER ONCE seen anyone use gloves at any outdoor climbing locations (except for in the winter in alpine areas when gloves were necessary for other reasons). Some people like gloves for rappelling and belaying because they can protect you from rope burn, but most experienced climbers I have talked to do not like them. You should not need gloves and they decrease your sensitivity in your hands...I would rather be able to feel the rope well. I usually even try to take my gloves off when climbing in cold climates unless absolutely necessary. So if you dont feel the need for them, dont get them just because you saw them...and definitely dont get them for actual climbing, there is no way they will help. They will just decrease your grip and dexterity.
