Climbing Ropes
What is a good exercise(s) for rope climbing?
I have no rope, what exercises will increase my rope climbing strength, so it's easier for me.
Two things. One, you need to exercise your arm and shoulder muscles, ideally by practising using your arms to lift your weight. Do you have access to anything you can hang from, pull yourself up from? You might want to check your local playground, a horizontal bar, or a climbing rack would be ideal to practise hanging from your arms, first both arms, then one at a time, and pulling yourself up. If you really have no other way, push-ups will also make your arms and shoulders stronger. Whenever you do exercises, stop as soon as you tire. Start by exercises that are easy for you, build it up gradually. Over-doing it will only cause injury to your arms, it will not make you stronger.
The second aspect you may need to develop is technique. Rope climbing involves clever use of your feet. You squeeze the rope between your shoes to create resistance, in order to reduce the amount of arm-strength you need. Look very carefully at other rope-climbers and ask your PE teacher to check whether you are doing it right. Good luck!

Climbing Ropes — How it's Made
How to set up rope climbing?
I have a large storage building, and the ceiling beams are extremely sturdy, sitting at about 50 feet in the air. well. I love rope climbing, but know very little about the technicalities of it. What would i need to set up a SAFE rope climbing situation here??
Suggestions on where to begin??
Do you just want to climb the rope? If so, you would need the initial rope (for climbing) and a secondary rope (for safety). The first rope would need to be appropriately anchored to the beam, and the second rope would need to be threaded through a pulley or carabiner which is anchored to the beam. You would need to wear a climbing harness and tie the safety rope to it. The other end of the safety rope would be belayed by a second person with a harness, locking carabiner, and belay device. You should get a dynamic climbing rope for this (40 meters should be enough, but you will probably have to buy a 60m rope). You should learn how to safely anchor to the beam as well as safely belay. This is the only safe way I can think of, as a fall from 50 feet would need a very good cushion to safely land, so belayed climbing seems like the only reasonable way.

Major orgasm during climbing ropes?
I was climbing ropes at gymnastics today and I couldn't do it very high. I suddenly I got the most intense orgasm in my life. I pushed myself up, higher, higher. The higher I got, the more intense the orgasm got. So I climbed all the way to the top. Is this normal, and have any of you experienced this?
It was not between my legs, I was just holding my muscles in really really tight and dragging myself up. Then it came.

ROPE JUMP - The Movie
How can you safely mark the center of a climbing rope?
I purchased a new climbing rope a few months ago and the center isn't marked. I understand the solvents in permanent markers can damage the mantle. What can I do to safely mark the center of the rope so I can find it before a double rope abseil?
You can also buy a special marker (I have one from Blue Water ropes) that is safe to mark climbing ropes with. I have had one for years and it works well to mark the center.

Climbing Ropes
How to make a cargo net (scramble net) with 10mm rope climbing rope?
I have 100's of feet of used climbing rope and want to make a scramble net for my kids to climb on. What type of knot(s) should be used. How to make each square the same size?
The main rope just forms rows of zig zags - the bottom of each bend attaches to previous row, the top of each bend attaches to the next row. Along the edges there is a straight piece of rope for the border. These are typically tied with a separate type of thinner rope which "lashes" the bend from each row together - the commercial ones use a metal connector the crimps the rope together.
If tying this with lashing rope, lay out the large rope with the bends marked out on each strand (which will all be the same length if your final net is going to be square). Then use some 4 or 5mm accessory cord to lash the marked points together - the double fisherman knot tied over the two main pieces of rope will work.

How climbing rope is made
Facts About Rock Climbing Rope
For a rock climber, his life depends upon his climbing gear, but especially his rock climbing rope. Todays manufacturers of rock climbing rope produce ropes that are a long way from the ropes of yesterday.
It used to be that 150-feet of rock climbing rope was sufficient, then it was 50 meters. Now some sport-climbing routes need 60 meter ropes. Longer ropes are more costly and are heavier to carry. Handling becomes difficult or cumbersome if the rock climbing rope is too long. You should be fine with a 50-meter rope. You want to have enough, but you dont want to get too carried away. Before you head up climbing, be sure your rope will be long enough.
Most new climbers biggest worry is the rope breaking and taking a fall. You will be glad to know that this is low on the list of worries of most experienced climbers. The rock climbing rope is designed to stretch with heavy weight or even a fall. The rock climbing rope is protected by a sheath that surrounds the inner core and will also protect you against cuts and scrapes. The rope going over a sharp edge is the leading cause of a break or cut in your line. Keep your eyes peeled for these types of edges.
If you are using rock climbing rope to tow your gear or for ascending, you dont want it to stretch and a static line is a rock climbing rope designed to stretch little, or not at all. You dont use a static line for the actual rock climbing, just for your equipment.
A wet rope is a rope that sits in a pool of water or is soaked by rain. This will cause the rope to weigh more and be harder to handle. Wet ropes will lose some of their strength as well. If the temperature falls below freezing, it will become almost impossible to handle. A dry rope is a rock climbing rope that has been treated to be more water repellent than the usual rope. These dry ropes will cost you about 20% more, and for a typical climb in typical weather, it is an unnecessary expenditure.
