Kid Climbing Rope
Track and Rope climbing?
I'm going to the 9th grade and and planning on taking track and field and rope climbing. But when I run I take these really long steps "monster steps" and I just started running a lot like before I was too lazy to run and I didnt know what I was capable of so after I started playing dodge ball in the 8th grade I realized how fast I could run and even out ran a kid that I thought was faster than me I ran so fast that my feet was hitting my body each time they went up and I was able to run away from anyone that chased me without getting caught. Who think I could be the fastest runner if I join a track team. Is rope climbing easy.
You might want to ask this question over in the Running or track and field categories. You'll probably get a lot more responses there.
Rope climbing and rock climbing are not the same thing, great exercise and fun things to do, but still different.

How do they test rock climbing equipment?
How do people/companies test rock climbing equipment like harnesses, ropes, etc. for safety?
The UIAA is the organization in charge of testing and certification of climbing equipment. They have set standards for tests and failure points for various types of equipment. Depending on the type of gear, different tests are done. Most are done using load frames and computerized load cells to measure the response and failure point of the materials or pieces of equipment being tested.

at rock city climbing how much does the ropes cost? do you have to have a group to use them?
my friend and i want to go to rock city climbing but the web cite is kinda confusing. is it 14$ for ropes and rock climbing? do you have to have a group to use the ropes?
Sam,
It sounds like you have never climbed before. Rock City has a couple different rooms: A top rop & lead climbing room as well as a bouldering room.
Bouldering doesnt require any extra gear than yourself. Using climbing shoes and chalk will make it easier, but they aren't "required".
Top rope climbing requires the use of harness, belay device and rope. Most experienced climbers will have their own harnesses and belay devices, but the gym provides the ropes. Since the ropes cost money to replace, most indoor facilities will charge more to use this portion of the gym versus the bouldering area.
To be able to use the roped area, you and your friend will need to learn how to use the ropes. The climber ties into one end of the rope and a person called a belayer clips into the other end of the rope. As the climber goes up, the belayer pulls slack out of the rope to keep the climber safe. If the climber falls, the belayer will lock off and keep the climber where they are. When the climber wants down, the belayer lets out rope to bring the climber back down. So you and your friend will need to take a class to learn these skills. The good news is that Rock City offers these classes for free! Call ahead, however, to find out when they teach these classes.
If you plan on using the ropes and going vertical (which I would highly recommend to get a full taste of climbing) then each person will need to rent a harness and I would recommend shoes and maybe even chalk bag. Rent 1 belay device between you to share since only one of you will be using it at a time.
Have fun, dont get discouraged and ask a lot of questions.

What would immanuel kant do in this situation?
This is a moral dilemma often confronted by mountain climbers and I was interested in knowing what Immanuel Kant would do in this situation:
You are climbing an ice mountain with your partner. Suddenly your partner cannot hold on to the rope anymore. You can either caught the rope off and kill him. But if you don't cut it off than you will both fall and die.
Using the categorical imperative, what would kant do in this situation?
I don't think he'd be able to decide, to be honest (he did, after all, invent the inquiring murderer scenario). For, to cut the rope would be to treat your friend as a means, which is always morally wrong and impermissible. Yet, to not cut the rope would be to destroy both of your rational natures. I think he would have such a difficult time deciding that the latter scenario would result - namely, they would both plummet to their death because of his indecision. Nonetheless, it's probable that he would cut the rope, yet be aware of his immoral deed and subsequently suffer a great amount of guilt for it.
