Climbing Equipment Kids
I've got 2 young kids, holidaying in Perth soon, what's the best type of entertainment for them?
My kids are 4 and 2 yrs' old. We want a fun packed holiday Perth, just wondering what's the best thing to do for their age range?
We'll do the zoo and AQUA and parks.
We used to have this place in town called "2 much fun". Was great it was a huge shed filled with climbing equipment, games, ball pits etc..
Anything you can recommend?
spend a day in fremantle, go to the Old Fremantle Markets, walk down High Road to the Maritime Museum, up to the Old Round House, down the left to the Fishing harbour where you can get Fish and Chips.

Things to do in central Perth City
Perth Mint, Stirling Gardens, the Art Gallery of WA, The Swan Bell Towers, go for a ferry ride on the swan river and catch the ferry to the Perth Zoo.
Kings Park is huge, you can spend a morning walking about, then have lunch or take a picnic and eat overlooking Perth city and the swan river.

Day Trips
Rockingham is a small coastal village, you can catch the train/bus down for a day trip. Try to go to Penguin Island, home of the fairy penguin, walk along the river foreshore and have a picnic lunch (lots of nearby takeaway) in the foreshore park.

This is our wine/cheese area with lots of different places to stop and try things. It is also a very historical town and area, with very early colonization. Your kids would enjoy several experiences such as supa golf.

Rock Climbing Equipment That Will Help the Rock Climber Make a Safe Climb
Rock climbing has emerged as a highly exuberant addictive activity that acts as a tonic for adrenaline junkies and nature trekkers. It is a sport that requires both physical and mental strength, a sport of strategies and skills, and a sport that builds a bond among the team of climbers for teamwork and camaraderie.
Rock climbing has received good standing and a lot of interests from many sports enthusiasts. Everybody is plunging into the idea of rock climbing. The danger and hazards that are involved in the game attract even more daredevils and people who long for thrilling experience.
Thanks to media exposure and popularity more and more people are now taking to this very exiting but life threatening sport. But experts say that the best rock climbing equipment one can wear and bring along in his climb is his knowledge and skills that he gains.
To help the rock climber on his way up, he needs a good rock climbing equipment. A rock climbing equipment is what the climber may need in order to reach the top of the rocky steep. In some cases, expert climbers don't even require rock-climbing equipment. Free rock climbing is another form of rock climbing that does not require any rock climbing equipments and this is the technique in which they employ their bare hands and foot.

Helmet should be given the prime importance. It helps the climber protect himself from fatal hits and scratches caused by the sharp and jagged edges of the rocky steeps. Moreover, it rock climbing equipment can protect your head from serious injury. When he is up there, he will need to aim his eyes on every angle, so he might not notice a sharp rock ahead of him. The helmet will also protect him from falling pebbles.
Harness is also essential rock climbing equipment. Most harnesses can be purchased in reputed sports shops or at standard rock climbing equipment dealers. So it is advised to hunt for a certified store.
Rock climbing shoes are not common shoes, but they are specially built for climbing. A good pair of shoes will give the climber comfort while ensuring their safety. Ropes and safety carbineer are also great addition to rock climbing equipment.
The person can be a beginner or an experienced climber he will need to invest his money and knowledge in buying the proper equipments for rock climbing because it forms major and vital part of his climb. So getting the right and proper equipments will solve half of the problem

If you are going to top rope outdoors take a class on setting up top ropes, you will need at least several slings ($15 each), several carabiners ($10 - $15 each) and a dynamic climbing rope ($120 - $180) if there are fixed anchors.
If you are going to be setting your own anchors, you should take a lead climbing class and you will need hundreds of dollars of trad pro like nuts, cams, etc.

Sport climbing equipment can be difficult to pick out, but if you follow some sample guidelines you should have a good idea of what sport climbing equipment you need to purchase and what makes it quality.
Types Of Sport Climbing Equipment
The first piece of equipment you need to get is a good quality helmet. There are many manufacturers out there and while it may seem that a helmet is just a helmet this is not the case. While all sport climbing equipment needs to meet certain guidelines as far as tolerance is concerned this does not mean they are all made the same. Helmets are probably the best example of this.
A decent helmet is simply required to protect your head from a certain amount of damage. Great quality helmets will not only meet this, but also provide you with a comfortable and cool protector for you head. You may also want to consider how many times your helmet can be damaged before it needs to be replaced. While there is no way to truly tell this it can be pretty obvious when you pick up a helmet that is designed to break when damaged and one that is built to last.
You will also need to consider what kind of rope you use. Rope is made in many different ways. Specifically for rock climbing you need to get dynamic rope. Dynamic rope has flex so that it can better handle the difficulties of climbing. Not all sport climbing rope is dynamic, but if you truly want the best than do no hesitate to invest in this. You will not be disappointed and hopefully will be able to use it for a long time.
The next most important piece of equipment is your shoes. In many cases these will provide the majority of your push when climbing so you need something comfortable that will last and stand up to the heavy stress of climbing. You also want to get a shoe that is light and resist water or dries very quickly. There is nothing worse than wet feet on a climb.
Last piece of sport climbing equipment you need to get is a good chalk bag. Make sure to get something that is light, weather proof, and that can hold enough chalk for your longest climbs. This piece of equipment is often overlooked. There you have it, a few simple rules to follow to get the right sport climbing equipment.

Who are some of the top manufactures for camping equipment such as sleeping bags, tents, climbing gear, backpacks, stoves, etc...
I would like to browse their websites.
I need something a little more heavy duty for upper Canada/Alaska near the tundra and lower forests.
I also woudn't mind it being universal for the most extreme cold climates.
I get catalogs from Cabelas, Sierra Trading Post, and Gander Mountain.

The question for sleeping bags is whether you're going to be in wet areas. It's especially important at freezing temperatures to keep dry. I use synthetics in this type of weather. Another suggestion is a top of the line goretex bag with the best goose down available. Get the one with the best subzero rating that you can find, and when its warmer, leave it unzipped. Better a little cool on warmer nights than freezing your rear off during an unexpected storm. I've been snowed in for days during a freak blizzard and during that trip I took a light summer bag to save weight.... it was pretty miserable and a GREAT adventure, now I take the best and use it unzipped.
I believe that there are some good gortex covers that can be purchased.

What equipment is needed to climb trees and repel?
Rope, harness, carabiner, tensioner. I have huge trees in my field that I want to climb safely. Am I missing anything else?
You need rope, harness, slings or some kind of protection to attach to the tree, someone to belay you from the bottom (this means they will need a harness, carabiner, and belay device as well), carabiner, and a belay device for yourself. Most importantly you will need the knowledge to understand how to actually use all of these things to safely climb and rappel.
At least this is how it would be done from a rock climbing perspective. Im sure that tree climbers use different systems.
