How do CARABINERS work?
Where does the elastic mechanism come from and will it ever metal fatigue?
The elastic mechanism comes from a spring which will eventually experience metal fatigue. When you lock into a carabiner, however, the gate is opposite of the rope so that in the event the gate or spring fails; the carabiner should still operate as intended and slow/stop your descent. Inspect all equipment prior to each and every use.
