| | Mad Country $11.18 When a band goes a decade without providing a new album, the question that immediately comes to mind is, "In what respects has the band evolved since the last album?" Some bands will evolve radically in the course of ten or 11 years, while others won't change a bit -- and for others, the truth is somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. A good example of the latter is Little Aida, whose 2007 release, Mad Country, is their first album since 1996's Confessions. Back in 1996, this Australian band was frequently compared to Portishead (a good, if imperfect, comparison) and offered alternative pop/rock that was greatly influenced by trip-hop, hip-hop, and the downtempo/chillout side of electronica. But on Mad Country, the club-friendly outlook of Confessions is gone and has been replaced by a much more guitar-minded approach that is relevant to both alternative pop/rock (especially the shoegazer bands) and folk-rock; the Portishead comparison is no longer applicable. And yet, Little Aida still sound like Little Aida. Their material is still decidedly melancholy; lead singer Tessa Rubinstein still favors a girlish, waifish vocal style; and Little Aida remain a band that would rather float than rock. The most intriguing thing about Rubinstein is her ability to sound both girlish and world-weary at the same time; no one will accuse her of having a big, womanly type of voice, but she certainly isn't girlish in a Radio Disney kind of way. On a technical level, Rubinstein doesn't have huge chops, but she still gets her emotional points across on airy, reflective offerings such as "The Dam Is Broken" and "Horses." | | Mad Heaven $13.58 As of early 2011, at least three members of New York Voices had recorded solo albums: Darmon Meader, Lauren Kinhan, and Peter Eldridge, whose albums outside of New York Voices have not been easy to categorize. Eldridge's solo albums have drawn not only on jazz, but also, R&B, pop/rock, folk, and world music; Mad Heaven is probably best described as "crossover jazz-pop with a strong Latin influence." Latin usually means Brazilian on this early 2011 release, although that isn't always the case. "Buffet Philosophy," for example, favors more of an Afro-Cuban groove. But the Brazilian influence asserts itself quite a bit, and that is true on Eldridge originals (including "Charmer," "Warm December," "On Second Thought," and the title song) as well as on appealing arrangements of Ary Barroso'd "Prá Muchucar Meu Coracão," Ivan Lins' "No Tomorrow," Ray Noble's "The Very Thought of You," and Carlos Lyra & Vinicius de Moraes' "Voce e Eu." No one will accuse Eldridge of being an aggressive belter on Mad Heaven; his vocals are subtle and understated throughout this hour-long CD, drawing on an intriguing variety of influences that ranges from Michael Franks to Chet Baker to Steely Dan to Brazilian icon João Gilberto. The Steely Dan influence comes through both musically and lyrically; Eldridge clearly appreciates Walter Becker & Donald Fagen's melodic sensibilities, and at times, his lyrics can have the dry, cryptic quality that Steely Dan's lyrics have long been known for. Although jazz-friendly, Mad Heaven is unlikely to appeal to jazz purists; there is too much pop/rock and R&B influence for that (even know Eldridge uses acoustic guitar, acoustic piano, and upright bass). And anyone who expects Peter Eldridge's solo output to be a carbon copy of his work with New York Voices is bound to be disappointed. | | Mad Season $7.62 On Yourself or Someone Like You, Matchbox Twenty's ability to craft sturdy, mainstream rock was overshadowed by their reliance on loud guitars, colorless production, and bombastic vocalizing. They trade that sound for a varied, accomplished, smooth production on their second album, Mad Season. Throughout this record, Matchbox Twenty seem unashamed that they sound their best when they're simply a mainstream rock band. They exploit this strength by expanding the production, adding horns and layers of keyboards to their sound, opening up the mix, and emphasizing their melodies. That shift in direction may disarm some fans of the debut, which was pretty much just guitars, but the band winds up with a big, bright, shiny album that's livelier than its predecessor. That alone makes Mad Season more engaging than the debut, but the real surprise is the group's growth as craftsmen and Rob Thomas' progression as a songwriter and singer. Prior to this album, Thomas had a tendency to oversell his songs, not just in the delivery but in the writing, and the band followed him along. Here, they tone down their performances and while the end result is heavily produced, the overall feel is more relaxed and welcoming than the debut. Of course, it also helps that they have a solid set of songs -- a set that eclipses their previous effort, even if there are a few dull moments here and there. Where can i buy one of these, or what they called?
where can i buy a digital watch that will let me put an alarm/beep for ever minute or for every 2 minutes and repeats for whatever time i put on etc..
its for sport, im not looking for a stopwatch just a normal one that will beep to whatever settings i put on

A stop watch seems best because you can get a cheap one in models for 12 dollars. I don't know the "digital watch" that you are talking about.

whats a good watch for sporting?
hey everyone
i am looking for a watch that has these features:
digital
heart rate monitor
distance thing (to see how far you have gone)
maybe a compass but i highly doubt it would be possible
stopwatch
and the least neccesary thing but nice touch is a GPS
i want to spend as little as possible for a decent watch
much appreciated
