Climbing Boots Fit

What footwear do i need to climb ben nevis?
Im planning ben nevis this weekend, and doing it on a budget. I am reasonably fit and do quite a bit of running, so i would judt like to know will my running shoes (silver shadows - army issue) be ok for the hike or will i need to invest to some walking boots?
Normally I would go for walking boots when going up a mountain, there is better ankle support especially for over the rough stuff than say walking shoes or trainers. However Ben Nevis has a track right to the top that is pretty much flat - not very much on it to twist an ankle on, and so normal trainers are suitable if the weather is good. In the rain I would go for boots for the waterproofing - if your feet get wet in the first hour then it can be a miserable day walking up and down, not to mention the blisters,
If you are tight and on a real budget (walking boots can cost as little as £25 if you look), then a good ordnance survey map, compass and whistle and knowledge of how to use them is a better buy, plus a bag to carry your stuff in (but this might cost more than the boots all together!!)
I am confused - you have army issue running shoes - are you in the army in which case don't they supply you with foot wear to walk in?

What should be the appropriate punishment for posters who delete their questions before you're done writing?
a) Lethal injection
b) Strapped down to a chair, starved, and forced to listen to Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" on repeat
c) Fitted with cement boots, tied up, and then dumped to the bottom of the ocean
d) Buried alive like Tim Matheson
e) Bring them back to life after each punishment to endure a different one
Same thing applies to Y!A (since they delete questions too).
definitely b, there's no worse way to punish someone, BELIEVE ME.
