Arbor Tree

What to do with ArboyDay.org trees until planted?
I ordered some trees from the Arbor Day foundation. They will arrive today, but I may not get to plant them until this weekend. What is the best way to keep them alive until then?
BTW: they are bare root (not potted) 6-12" tree starters.
P.S. I am in central Pennsylvania.
You can quasi-pot them in some soil and keep them moist and cool. Prepare the spot(s) where you'll be planting and then when you get to plant them this weekend you can just turn them out into the spots. By quasi-pot I mean you can put them in small pots or even plastic bags with some soil and moisture to keep the roots from drying.

How to train a Redbud tree?
Arbor Day sent me 10 free twigs several years ago. The Eastern Redbuds are among the most vigorous trees I planted. But they are developing multistems, and I wonder which is best for the tree, multistem or training it to a single trunk.
Since now is the best time to prune, I figure now is the best time to hope an aborist is out there reading this question. Will training it to a single stem stunt its overall height?
No, if the secondary stems are formed low at the bottom of your tree, simply prune them away. Most red bud trees are allowed a primary stem and when it gets about 5 - 6 feet tall it is allowed to grow lateral branches and forms sort of an umbrella shape. This is the Traditional way for red bud trees to grow, but you can take your choice.
Pruning away the secondary trunks will not stunt the growth of the tree.
